“I lost my mom to cancer during my last year at Pepperdine. From diagnosis to rushing home in the middle of the semester, the members of the Student Care Team supported me. After my mom’s death, I was welcomed back to Pepperdine by the Student Care Team when I didn’t want to come. They even continued to check on me after I graduated. The Student Care Team watches out for students when darkness envelops their world, and they help them get on their feet. To continue serving students, they need the resources to help a student who loses a family member, who goes through a traumatic experience, or who just needs a friend.”— Edward Adutwum (’17)
“During my greatest time of pain, the Student Care Team provided me with great support, both emotional and financial. My father called and told me of the state my mother was in, and we knew that I needed to get home as soon as possible. Because of the Student Emergency Fund being able to fund that last minute flight, I was able to spend my mother’s last days with her at home. That was more than just a financial gift—it was a gift of time. The Student Care Team lifted a financial burden from my family and me in a time when it wasn’t something that we could think about. We are very grateful for their work and support they provide.”— Asa Bailey (’20)
“I am so grateful for the help I received through the Student Emergency Fund when I broke my neck in a car accident last year. I was unable to work for months, and the financial assistance allowed me to buy groceries, which I otherwise wouldn’t have been able to afford. I was under enormous stress, and this assistance made a significant difference in my life.”— Claire Sledge (’17)
